Abstract

Sludge generated from water treatment plant operations requires proper management to prevent environmental pollution. This study aims to design a Sludge Drying Bed (SDB) system for sludge management at the Padasan Water Treatment Plant, PDAM Tirtamarta, Yogyakarta. The research method involves analysis of sludge quantity, design criteria determination, and calculation of SDB dimensions based on sludge production data. The proposed design consists of parallel SDB units to ensure continuous operation and effective dewatering. The results show that the designed SDB is capable of reducing sludge moisture content and producing dry cake that can be handled and disposed of safely. The implementation of this system is expected to improve sludge management efficiency and support sustainable water treatment plant operations.
